There is no money for the track in the sports budget. The entrepreneur who had previously opened the track abandoned the project. Now there are discussions about whether there are partners, such as entrepreneurs, to build and maintain the track.
The City of Lahti is currently discussing with various parties whether it is still possible to build a skating rink on the ice of Lake Vesijärvi.
Restaurant Lokki in Teiva Harbour has opened a skating rink from the harbour to Mukkula for several winters. This winter it was not done due to lack of resources.
On social media, many people have asked about the track and asked the city to take action.
– We are now investigating with different parties whether it is possible to open it for the rest of the winter. There has been interest, says Ahokas.
He does not say the parties in more detail, but it is known that there are at least entrepreneurs involved.
Ahokas believes that the cost calculation for the skating rink will be completed next week. In addition to plowing, the track needs daily maintenance.
According to Ahokka, the ice in Lake Vesijärvi is currently 15–20 centimeters thick. It does not withstand, for example, flat machines. You can go on the ice with Ahokka on ATVs and snowmobiles.
