City of Rovaniemi to impose more fines for unauthorised short-term rentals
In May, the Rovaniemi Environment Committee will discuss three proposals that would impose fines on professional short-term rentals in properties zoned for residential use.
The City of Rovaniemi’s Environment Committee is about to impose new fines on professionally rented short-stay flats that have been designated for residential use in the plan. On 27 May, the committee will decide on the fines for three apartments in the so-called Kymppikorttel at Korkalonkatu 36.
The new fines would apply to the same block of flats as those imposed by the Environment Committee in April. According to the city, 77 of the building’s 95 apartments are used for illegal accommodation.
According to the city’s building control department, the apartments are furnished but have no permanent residents. According to the city, the apartments provide professional accommodation, including hotel services such as luggage storage and final cleaning.
The apartment building is owned by the housing company Rovaniemi Taiga and the apartments are under the control of private shareholders.
At the May meeting, the Committee on the Environment is imposing threats to short rent for short rent. The penalty payment applies to both the housing company and the housing owners and tenants.
For the first time, the city of Rovaniemi rely on a penalty payment on illegal accommodation in January. The penalty payment concerned a residential apartment building on Koskikatu, with at least 12 of which are used for accommodation. The persons concerned have denied the happening of the accommodation.
