A 26-year-old man convicted of gross child abuse over a long period of time received his prison sentence partly for crimes committed as a young person.

The number of acts and the confidential status of the convicted person caused special damage to the victim, states the District Court of Häme.

A currently 26-year-old man from Lahti has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for aggravated sexual abuse of a child and attempted rape and the purchase of sexual services from a company.

The exploits have targeted the same victim and continued for a total of seven years. The victim was ten years old when the long-lasting and often repeated acts began.

In addition, the Häme district court ordered the abuser to compensate the victim for the suffering caused by his actions with 13,000 euros.

The convict denied the actions

Between 2011 and 2017, the convict had committed numerous sexual acts, but without trying to have sexual intercourse.

When the victim turned 15, the perpetrator tried to rape, taking advantage of the victim’s strong state of intoxication.

In addition, in 2018, the convict tried to buy sex services by offering alcohol.

The convict denied the actions. The evidence was mainly based on the victim’s account, which was also supported by the text messaging between the parties involved and the witness’s account.

The district court in Häme considered sexual abuse to be gross due to the duration and number of acts.

Furthermore, due to the child’s age and developmental level and the special trust he felt towards the perpetrator, the crime was capable of causing special damage to the victim.
