This is what it looks like in a small hotel in Tampere, where you can stay for as little as €39 – “We want this to be a phenomenon”
The entrepreneur is looking to expand the small-room hotel to other big cities.
Uumen, a small room hotel, will open in the Finlayson area of Tampere on Wednesday. The hotel’s rooms will have a bed and a small storage space, and not much else.
Small rooms are also known as “door-closing accommodation”, as they are not officially rooms because of their size.
The rooms are large enough to stand up and change clothes. They also have a window, mirrors, adjustable lighting, a waste bin and a power socket.
There is little storage space and larger luggage must be taken to a separate storage space. The teeth can be washed in a separately located restroom or in lockable shower rooms that are used in common use of customers
As a summer season, prices may sometimes be higher due to dynamic pricing, but according to Rahkola, a single room price permanent is still around 39-69 euros.
– We are a budget hotel and we want to stay as such.
For example, on Tuesday, Aamulehti wrote about the high prices of hotels in Tampere and the need for new rooms.
Aiming to expand to other big cities
The hotel has a maximum capacity of almost 200, but according to Rahkola, a small extension is possible.
However, Rahkola is already aiming for a bigger scale, as discussions about expanding the small room outside of Tampere have already been discussed.
In his speeches, Rahkola mentions, for example, the big cities of the Helsinki metropolitan area, Turku and the north.
– The groundwork is now done. We want to make this a phenomenon.
First, however, it is intended to see how the summer in Tampere’s Uumen goes.
