Amendments to the Basic Education Act will change the forms of support for education in Lahti
The current decisions on intensified and special support will be in force from the start of the next academic year.
Changes to the Basic Education Act will affect support for learning and school attendance.
In Lahti, for example, the three-tier support will be replaced by group and pupil-specific forms of support, says the city’s press release.
The Basic Education Act will change in August, but the current decisions on intensified and special support will remain in force from the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The decisions will be revised during the next academic year to comply with the new law.
The law change includes a transition period until August 31, 2026.
Parents of elementary school students will receive more information on the change and impact on support next year.
Lahti is currently applying for more than 20 new special teachers. The city invests approximately EUR 1.5 million in the support reform of learning aid. The money of the reform will come as state subsidies.
