Rovaniemi wants to increase its accommodation capacity – reserved the city centre for a hotel and offers tourist plots
The demolished McDonald’s fast-food restaurant will be replaced by a hotel with commercial space. Plots will be offered for tourist services in Olleronvaara.
An area has been reserved for a new hotel in Rovaniemi’s city centre. The Rovaniemi City Council decided on the matter at its meeting on Monday.
Alaoja has become known as an advocate for short-term rentals and has also spoken about his own short-term rental activities.
By decision, the City Council reserved the so-called Porokulma area for RDS-Partners Oy, which aims to build a hotel complex of around 11 000 square metres. In addition to accommodation, it would also include commercial premises such as services for taxi drivers.
The city of Rovaniemi is expected to start the partnership planning in the area together with the company.
The Porokulma area is located next to the shopping malls in Rinnekulma and Revontule, where the fast food restaurant McDonald’s used to be.
The city of Rovaniemi has the goal of increasing accommodation capacity. Currently, accommodation capacity during the winter season is not sufficient for rental rental sites.
According to the City of Rovaniemi, the demand for tourism plots is very high. It has now applied for 11 construction sites in the Olleronvaara area.
Olleronvaara is located on the Ounasjoki River, north of the Vennivaara residential area. Olleronvaara drives from the city center in about 15 minutes.
In this way, the city says it will guide tourism to that zoned areas.
