Kuosmanen, who was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and also received the Jussi Award, is also known around the world for his films Cabin No. 6 and The Smiling Man.
Film director Juho Kuosmanen has been chosen Kokkolaan of the Year.
The selection was made by the Kokkola Youth Chamber of Commerce based on the proposals received. The competition was organized at the end of 2022.
Kuosmanen’s Cabin No. 6 and Smiling Man have been awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and several Jussi awards.
The award committee thanked Kuosmanen for having had a significant and diverse impact on Kokkola’s culture and for having brought international recognition to the city.
In 2021, Juho Kuosmasen’s Cabin No. 6 received the prestigious Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival, which is considered the festival’s silver award.
In addition, Kuosmanen has been with other film industry professionals from Kokkola creating a film industry residency in Ykspihlaja, Kokkola. He is also the artistic director of the annual Kinojuhli in Kokkola.
The Kokkolaan of the Year was chosen for the first time in 1984. From then on, the award was awarded until 1998. The competition returned in 2005, and the last Kokkolaan of the Year was chosen in 2013.
The criteria for receiving the award is that a person or community has developed Kokkola and promoted the city’s success or brought it to the fore in the world or in Finland.
