Helsinki’s strengths in the comparison were functioning public transport, ticket prices and a clean city environment.

Helsinki ranked third in the Urban Mobility Readiness index of the Oliver Wyman Forum and the University of California. It measured the readiness of cities for future forms of mobility and challenges.

In all, there were 60 cities from different continents in the comparison. Only Stockholm and San Francisco were ahead of Helsinki.

There were 57 points in the comparison that measured, among other things, endurance and efficiency of movement.

As a novelty, the 2022 index also included a public transport sub-index, whose indicators include usage rate, speed of work trips and frequency of stops.

In the public transport sub-index, Helsinki was fifth, behind big cities such as Oslo, Tokyo and Paris.

Helsinki’s good ranking was justified by extensive car-free areas, low noise, light and air pollution, and low ticket prices.
