The city of Lahti strives to facilitate safe parking for bicycles. The city has recently built a new bike canopy for the Lahti Travel Center, which protects against the weather better than the former. The new park also has more space.

The bike racks are designed so that the bicycle can be locked from the body. The new bike park is free of charge and will later come with camera surveillance.

– It also attracts people to use the bike. There is a bit of a limited parking for the cars here, so the bike canopy may not allow everyone to take the car, he says.

According to Lake Polojärvi, the possibility of locking a bike on the hull is an important way to improve cycling conditions.

– The surveys show that bike theft is one of the biggest obstacles to why people are not cycling.

The traffic engineer estimates that the city could still add trunk -loving bike racks in the heart of downtown, as they are quite inexpensive and can be taken out of snow plows.

The city was told in January that the construction of the new bike canopy would cost around € 220,000. The City of Lahti accounts for just under EUR 170,000 and the remaining approximately EUR 50,000 costs the fairway agency, ie the state.

The City of Lahti is also testing a paid, closed and locked bike stable at the Travel Center. For those who are afraid of bike reservations, the city also offers a rented city bike mannel as an alternative.
