Sotkamo is wondering if tourists should pay a voluntary liability fee

For example, the Sotkamo card would provide free public transport trips. The proceeds could maintain nature trails, public transport and joint municipal services.

Repo says he has paid tourist taxes on his own travel abroad, which many lively tourist cities usually inherit during hotel accommodation.

For him, Sotkamo could try whether tourists would be interested in paying a voluntary tourist fee.

\”I think that people want to travel more responsibly and respect the place and nature they travel,\” says Repo.

According to Revo, with Sotkamo card, the traveler could get, for example, local traffic or sports facilities.

Repo does not want to call the Sotkamo card a tourist tax, but is more of a responsibility fee for him. He has taken a council initiative to the municipality of Sotkamo, but does not suggest any particular amount.

– It could be a tourist tax type, for example, a percentage of the accommodation fee, but the most important thing is to find a good and functional model.

Today, the Sotkamo Municipal Government decided to send a council initiative for preparation today.

– As far as I know, there is no such holistic tourist fee anywhere, but voluntary fees in tourist areas apply to individual issues. For example, we also have ski charges.

In the mid -term, the Finnish government decided that the state would start investigating the tourist fee regionally in Lapland.
