Records were set during Lapland’s tourism winter – here are five examples
The tourist season was a profitable one for Lapland. In addition to Rovaniemi’s huge accommodation figures, Kemi and Tornio, among others, also attracted tourists.
The past tourist winter in Lapland was in many ways a successful and record-breaking one. Rovaniemi in particular continues to grow in popularity as a tourist destination.
The city recorded 1.1 million overnight stays in November and March, almost a fifth more than in the previous winter.
Accommodation sales in Rovaniemi increased by one third to around EUR 130 million.
The number of short rentals increased by almost half the previous year. Still, registered overnight stays accounted for just over half of all overnight stays.
There were also plenty of tourists in Meri-Lap
Sampo and its sister ship Arctic, who had been operating in the Bothnian Bay of winter, made a record season. Kemi tourism vessels visited a total of over 36,000 cruise guests during the season, while the previous record was just over 20,000 customers.
– The occupancy rate of hotels in the area is higher than the average in Finland and group reservations have been made for international tour operators for years to come.
Air travel at peak times
During the winter season, Lapland Airports have also been busy. During the Lapland air travel season, a record number of limit checks was made compared to 2023.
About 20 percent more have also been visited at Enontekiö Airport than the previous winter. The number of passengers during the winter season of Enontekiö was over 38,000.
Levi’s slopes drew a crowd
– There are only some of these accommodations in statistics. But the number of unregistered accommodations is almost 10 %, Pesonen says.
Pesonen is not worried that the border is coming up with the growth of tourism, as in addition to winter tourism, the gaze is now in summer tourism.
Top result for the zoo
Ranua Resort, Ranua Animal Park company, made the best result in its history last year. The company’s net sales were EUR 6.8 million, which is approximately EUR 1.4 million more than the previous year. Almost 129,000 people visited the zoo throughout the last year.
