Trees at the edge of Turku’s Market Square have a mysterious guardian – “I grew up for a hundred years, spare me!”
A hotel and commercial premises are planned for the sites on the edge of the Market Square.
An as yet unknown party is opposing the construction of a hotel on Turku’s Market Square to protect the trees in a small park.
The cardboard sleeves tied to trees appeal to the cooling shelter they provide, the organisms that live in them and the old age of the trees.
At the beginning of April, Yle presented some previews of the hotel planned for the Aurakatu site.
In the mid -moon, archaeological excavations were made on the site. At that time, it was determined whether the building was implemented and at what price. Nothing archaeologically significant was found, so the track is free. Soil studies are not yet done.
Excavations may have aroused the patrons of the trees.
Already in 2020, some of the city dwellers showed a frying face for the plans.
Niuro emphasizes that if something is built, the aim is to preserve the trees or possibly replace new landscaping.
The signs are removed as soon as possible.
– It is important that no one now rises on those trees, because they can get hungry before things progress. After all, we have no pattern yet, but we’re just planning, Niuro says.
