Aija Puurtinen is a visa couch
Cultural guest, singing coach Aija Puurtinen is Erika Vikman’s trusted person 24/7 at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The audience roar Cha Cha Chata.
It was impossible to find another place as peaceful in Liverpool’s Euro 2023 crowds.
This is what Puurtinen does: he is a singing coach for Finnish wizards.
His job is to make sure that the performer song goes, even if something unexpected happens on the stage.
Now he tells what’s going on in the scenes of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Song, choreography, costumes and makeup are carefully refined.
– We have my breakthroughs for several hours. So much is carried and passed through the performance that it remains in the singer’s muscle memory.
Then it’s time to move to the Swiss Basel to compete for the Eurovision victory.
ICH KEMN!
Liverpool was a “shocking experience”
Aija Puurtinen has been coaching participants in the New Music competition for years. Many of them are artists down and need guidance and support.
In fact, Puurtinen is their singing coach. With the winner, he will continue in the same role in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Switzerland is the third time for Puurtinen.
– For me, Liverpool was a shaking first experience with Eurovision. It was insanely wonderful to see it all for the first time on the spot, he says.
But the second place in the song competition was a great disappointment.
– The voice of the people should have been solved.
Afterwards, he has been pleased to follow his coaching success.
– The wrapper has had a great career that, after the Eurovision Song Contest, has caught fire in an unimaginable flame. And what’s up yet?
The coach is the water bottle manager
Aija Puurtinen is best known for Honey B
He has made compositions for different artists and appears in several configurations.
He can play bass, guitar, piano and flute – best bass.
He has an extensive audio register from low to high upper voices. My sound is mezzo -soprano.
– My number one instrument is definitely a song, says Puurtinen, who works as a lecturer in pop and jazz at the Sibelius Academy.
He promises to do his best to succeed in Finland.
When Vikman shines in the limelight, Puurtinen is ready to act as a bottle manager if necessary.
– I’m in Basel to support Erika 24/7.
A song must go even if it’s on the floor
Erika Vikman and the song * ICH Kemme * have been among the top ten in Eurovision Vetonet Statistics from the beginning.
Even the small details have been considered: the direction of the gaze, the movements of the hands, the cameras and the lights. Still, not all of the direct broadcast surprises can be fully prepared.
– The ears can break down and you will not hear your song at all or with only one ear.
Vikman’s choreography is demanding. He is sometimes upright, with his contact and his back. At the same time, the song must go in the best possible way.
Erika’s visa presentation is not excited about the wooden.
– Erika has such a good sense of situational awareness and gig experience that he will take anything to the end of the show.
Before the h-moment, they do a \”sound\ or vocal opening exercises and train singing according to what Vikman hopes.
– He is a professional singer. Managing the song instrument is really good.
Eurovision Song Contest is a tough start for artists.
The sound is being tested even before the actual final day. The performers have numerous interviews and the noise is tough.
– Eurovision is a celebration of love and tolerance. There you hands and hugs all the time, and it’s no wonder if someone becomes ill.
That would be a disaster for the performer. Therefore, Puurtinen reminds me of the basics as washing hands, sufficient night’s sleep and drinking water.
– If the mouth and throat are sandpaper, it is difficult to sing.
The instructions begin to laugh at the wooden. He says he sounds like a sports coach.
Puurtinen and Vikman targeted for harassment
When Erika Vikman won the UMK competition and was selected as the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest, he became the subject of hostile comments. In Somme, among other things, his outfit was considered inappropriate to reveal.
It is easy for Puurtinen to understand how bad the online liability feels.
\”I feel deeply shame for commenters,\” he says.
As a young beginner musician, Puurtinen himself would have needed more support and instructions on how to deal with sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior.
His skills were belittled and the abilities were not believed because he is a woman.
Puurtinen has experienced sexual harassment from the public, but also from colleagues.
– At gigs, my backside and breasts have been caught. Once, a man put a mirror to see what my skirt looks like.
Beer has been thrown on him and has been hit on the face.
– I admit: I once also got a man who had access to me.
Puurtinen says that usually the victim of harassment is so shocked that he cannot and can react immediately in any way.
In April, Teosto published a study on equality in the music industry in April. It states that women are still subject to inequality, inappropriate treatment and discrimination.
– I am glad that this is increasingly talked about and equality is improving. There is still misogynia, especially in social media, where you can criticize the artist so easily.
And who will win the World Cup?
There are only three weeks for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Puurtinen hopes that on a visa evening, everyone will vote for the best song, and the choice will not be guided, for example, by political reasons.
– I bet the Eurovision will become a tough race that can be full of surprises.
Whose artist is he ready to bet then?
Puurtinen responds by telling what he thinks is required of a good Eurovision song.
– Surprise. Not enough, no matter how wonderful and trendy pop song. And the artist must not be distant, but he has to exude heat.
According to Aija Puurtinen, Erika and Kaj are both.
