Lahti cuts back on play parks – a few parks survive thanks to residents’ activism
According to Francis McCarron (Coalition), chairman of the Urban Environment Commission, the city is now giving up oversupply.
The Gulf is cutting back on its playgrounds. The city can no longer afford to maintain an extensive network of playgrounds.
There are now 148 play parks in Lahti, of which forty will be cut over the next ten years. The Urban Environment Committee approved the downsizing plan on Wednesday.
According to the justification, playgrounds have been set up outside the zoning area, on the boundaries of private plots or on the banks of a watercourse and in places where traffic is dangerous.
As a result of city feedback, the Board decided to maintain the play areas of Suppala, Erkonpuisto, Mettäsmäki Park, Veterans Park and Linnaistie.
There were 900 responses to the city’s resident survey.
According to the city’s impact assessment, the decision temporarily weakens resident satisfaction. The city also recognizes the cause of the reputation.
More than a hundred remain
– Before sprinkling ashes on us, it is good to remember that we still have as many playgrounds as in comparison cities in Kuopio, Jyväskylä, Kouvola. We are no worse than other cities. Vice versa. Now we came from oversupply to normal.
Already this year, seven parks will be removed. The parks to be removed are Männistörne, Köllinranta, Kivisilta, Herrasmann’s courtyard streets, Möysä beach play area, Ainopuisto and Patila Park.
Small fields remain in the parks to be removed and the park area is still maintained as a green area.
