Nastola Kirkonkylä school gets a year’s reprieve – parents continue to fight against the village’s decline

The Parents’ Association sees the postponement as a victory. The association will not give up, but will consider new ways to keep the school open.

The Lahti Board of Education has granted an extension to the Kirkonkylä school in Nastola. The Education Board decided to close Nastola Kirkonkylä School only after one year.

The Education Committee was asked to close the school as early as next autumn, but the decision to postpone was taken after a vote.

– For the next school year, we need to find some ways to fight back with the PTA and the whole active group, sums up Johanna Tötterstrom.

The school’s decision -making decision was influenced, among other things, by the school’s indoor air problems. The gym and the technical work space must not be used for teaching and only a short period of time in the school’s dining room.

Members of the Parent Committee intend to continue the school’s rescue companies, as Johanna Tötterström says that the closure of a two hundred pupils school would have a direct impact on the vitality of the entire area.

– This whole church village is looking. No more families with children are here if there is no school or other services here. Everything has been stopped here.

The Kukkanen school and office buildings in the vicinity of Nastola Kirkonkylä have already been closed down. The health centre has also been moved to containers.

Big bill for the city for a year’s extra time

The educational board decided to give the school to the school after hearing older than heard.

The Board of Education proposes that the cost of continuing the Kirkonkylä school is covered by an additional estimate. According to the city, the decision is about EUR 700,000 for basic education.

Markkanen hopes that the council will be a favorable supplement for the supplement.

– At least it would be reasonable for the Kirkonkylä school to receive an amending budget. Then it would not be out of all children and schools in the city so that we would have to grow group sizes or cut the afternoon activities, which is an important service for families with the whole city, says Markkanen.

Based on the results of the fitness study, the full organization of teaching in the current school building is not possible starting next fall. At least physical education and handicraft teaching of hard materials have to be implemented at other locations.

The other three classrooms and the afternoon operations will also have to be dismantled. In addition, you can stay in the canteen for only 20 minutes a day.

– We currently have difficulty recruiting new teachers in Lahti for longer -term fixed -term premises. In Nastola, the decision means that children do not receive educated teachers, healthy workspaces and curriculum teaching, says Lientola.
