Yle opens new negotiations on changes
The new negotiations on changes at the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation concern more than 350 people.
The Finnish Broadcasting Corporation is launching its second round of negotiations on changes. They involve 364 people and could lead to the dismissal of up to 37 people.
Yle’s target is to save a total of EUR 50 million between 2025 and 2026, and the company estimates that the measures already taken will result in savings of around EUR 45 million. The new cuts are aimed at saving a total of around €5 million. Three million of these are to be allocated to staff costs and two million to other areas.
The new negotiations will focus on the Creative Content and Media and Strategy and Services units and will start on Wednesday 23 April. The negotiations will affect permanent staff in areas such as the company’s Finnish-language drama, entertainment, youth and children’s content, content translation and versioning, production planning and domestic and international content sourcing.
The Creative Content and Media Unit is responsible for the Finnish -language contents of Finland, including facts, drama, culture, entertainment and content for children and adolescents. The unit is also responsible for, among other things, the Symphony Orchestra of the Radio and the Finnish -language TV and radio channels.
309 people already made redundant
The first round of the over -the -back negotiations ended in late January. As a result, the company’s personnel decreased by 309 employees. About half of the amount was redundancies and half were retired. Yle offered a pension affection to those covered by change negotiations.
The first round of the negotiations took place in the News, Sports and Event Unit, Svenska Yl, some of the company’s creative content and other activities in the company. YLE regional deliveries were also involved.
There were about 1,800 employees in the employment relationship in the conversion negotiations. Originally, it was reported that negotiations could lead to termination of an employment relationship of up to 375 people.
The biggest cuts in the nearly 100 -year -old history are due to the decision of the Parliamentary Working Group. In September last year, the working group decided that YLE’s funding would be cut by raising VAT and freezing index increases. The index was frozen between 2025 and 2027. The impact of the decision is EUR 47 million on the 2027 level.
The VAT on YLE will rise from 10 % to 14 % from 2026 onwards. The impact of the decision is approximately EUR 19 million annually.
This means that in 2027 the impact of savings will increase to about EUR 66 million. About 3,000 people worked before the onset of change negotiations, most of whom are journalists or other journalistic content. In addition, the company employs fixed -term and freelancers.
