Legionella is no longer present in the tap water of the Järvisydämen spa, but chlorination still continues
Legionella bacteria was found in the tap water at the Lake Spa on 23 March. Samples taken in early April were clean.
The spa will continue to chlorinate tap water until the health inspector gives the go-ahead to stop.
– It will take another 1-2 clean samples before the problem can be said to be gone, but at the moment it looks very good,” says Eronen.
The bacterium can cause severe legionella pneumonia if it enters the respiratory tract as vapour.
For example, evaporation can occur in the shower and the bacterium can spread through the air conditioners. When drinking, the bacterium does not cause the disease.
Revealed in routine samples
Legionella finds are not uncommon in June 2023.
In March, the bacterium was found in a routine sample taken by the health inspector.
According to Erosen, samples are recommended to take at least four times a year from jacuzzi and other warm waters. There is no need to take a sample of the pool.
– We also have a sample of shower and tap water at least once a year. The health inspector takes care of it himself, he will take the samples when he considers best.
Following the Legionella bacterial observation, Järvisydän has given guests the opportunity to move the spa visit to another time or use a beach sauna instead of a spa.
– Customers have received positive feedback that they have been contacted before the visit.
