Lack of snow affects the water situation in Saimaa-the ELY Center follows the situation closely

The water level of Saimaa is now about five cents lower than normal. At the same time last year, the water was more than half a meter higher.

The water level of Saimaa is typically low in April. Now the surface of the Saimaa is lower than normal and probably falls quite down.

According to the ELY Center, the water level will rise by about thirty cents by mid-May. After that, it starts slowly.

Spring and summer rainfall has a big impact on the water level of the autumn Saimaa. With normal rainfall, the water level will remain low.

– There is some kind of drought risk here. We need to closely monitor the development of the forecasts and consider possible running.

The groundwater situation is currently normal, and the South Savo ELY Center has not received reports of drying wells.
