The interior of the Sötte nature center was renovated during this fall. The renovated cafe is already open, but the opening of the new center’s exhibition will still have to wait until January.

The national parks of North Ostrobothnia are starting their winter season. On Monday, December 19, a brand new, approximately 3.5 kilometer long winter route was opened in Rokua. The marked route, especially suitable for snowshoeing, runs between the parking areas of Pookivaara and Pitkäjärvi.

In Syötte National Park, on the other hand, the indoor renovation of the nature center, which started in the fall, is starting to be completed.

The nature center’s public spaces have been redecorated, and a new exhibition has also been built in the center.

The Love Your Nature exhibition, which offers a lot for children to do, will open in January at the latest, as long as its last technical details can be polished

– The cafe has been open since the beginning of December, says project manager Juho Niemelä from Metsähallitus’ nature services.

The actual opening of the exhibition will be celebrated on Saturday, February 4. At the same time, the 20th anniversary of Syötte nature center is celebrated.

Sötte’s winter outdoor trails will probably be opened after Christmas after the snow situation has improved, although the Ahmatuva slope is already in use for skiers. Due to the high price of fuel, routes will be maintained a little less this winter than before.

There have been fewer visitors to Rokua and Syötte this year than in the peak years of the corona era, but there have still been more hikers from representatives of the national parks than before the pandemic. It is estimated that outdoor activities in the midst of rugged nature will continue to be of interest to tourists in the future.

In 2021, Syötte National Park had 117,800 visitors, while 62,600 people hiked in Rokua.
