Eeva Meltio won the comic book Finlandia with sand: describe merciless conditions that few people remember
The cartoon album Sand tells a true event-based story about drought in the Midwest of the United States.
The cartoon Finlandia is a recognition prize founded by Tampere Kuplii ry in 2007. The prize is € 5,000.
According to Eeva Melkio, the work describes the eco -disaster.
– People survive in difficult conditions and how people survive and start treating each other. I feel like these are eternal topics and interest, Melkio describes.
A total of 68 albums were proposed. About 90 cartoon albums were released in Finland last year.
The work of Meltion tells about the almost ten years of drought period in the Midwest of the United States in the 1930s.

According to Arto Nyberg, Eeva Meltio succeeded in reaching the gloomy moods of a true story -based story into a comic book.
The work makes you think about the modern times, Nyberg says.
– The consequences of ten years of drought are seen in cinematic images that take the story. The cartoon will bring sand and merciless conditions to the reader’s eyes, Nyberg says in the release.
* Sand* tells the story of a young girl during the growth story, when faith in rain workers had not yet disappeared.
The protagonist of the*sand*, Ollie, finds himself in the oil field as a drill assistant. Ollie has decided to bring the rains back and thus find the way back home. Ollie meets the old rain maker and leaves him to learn the secrets of making rain. A common journey through the plain causes him to face painful memories, but also to find a piece of himself.
Eeva Meltio has published small publishing and small magazines since 2010. Meltio also makes oil paintings and art prints. Station Kustannus published his first work * Beasts * in 2015.
Publishing Editions Cambourakis published *beasts *in France in 2017 as *Animaux *.
