Nastola Kirkonkylä School has three possible fates – residents will be heard next Thursday

The school building is on its way and would require an investment corresponding to the new building.

Three options have been drawn up for the future of the Kirkonkylä elementary school in Nastola, Lahti.

The city of Lahti is now collecting statements about the options. Opinions are also taken into account the statements submitted through the Lahti City Registry. The continuation of the Kirkonkylä school will be evaluated.

The city will host an open resident event on Thursday, April 3, next week. The Board of Education will discuss the matter at the April meeting in three weeks.

The church village school has become a political controversy. On the educational side, the city has a savings target of several million euros.

To date, nine health hazards have been identified at the Kirkonkylä school. The use of school can be safeguarded until the end of the spring semester 2026 by restricting the use of some spaces and enhancing ventilation and cleaning.

The school is not closed. The next school year The school will take place in existing premises wherever possible. Emergency facilities are planned for the school. The renovation and further use of the current school building will be investigated. If necessary, the school also has a preparatory class for immigrants.

All 1 year grade students will go to Rakokivi Elementary School in August 2025. If necessary, the preparatory group of immigrants will continue at the school. The activities of the Kirkonkylä Elementary School will be closed on July 31, 2026.
