A 29-hectare forest area has been purchased on the island of Önsholm.
The Natural Heritage Foundation has purchased a forest area of about 29 hectares from Paraiso. Located on Önsholm Island, the forest is a diverse, decaying woodland, ranging from sparse rock outcrops to lush oak and deciduous forests.
A nature reserve will be created and more elm trees will be planted. According to the Foundation, the creation of the reserve will not bring major changes to the lives of the island’s cottagers.
The Foundation now has fourteen protected forests in Southwest Finland.
The Natural Heritage Foundation buys forests with donation funds. Purchased forests are permanently protected.
