Finns trust the domestic media more than before, according to a survey by the Finnish Business Delegation Eva.

More than 60% of people feel that the Finnish media give them a comprehensive and truthful picture of world events. Finns have a more positive view of the media now than in the 1980s and 1990s.

Finns consider Yle to be the most reliable source of news, with 76% feeling that Yle’s news gives a true picture of events in Finland and the world.

69 % of the respondents and 65 per cent of the respondents rely on the Finnish Information Office in STT and 65 % of MTV News. 61 % of respondents are considered truthful about Helsingin Sanomat news.

Although the media is largely praised, 70 percent of Finns feel that it will focus too much on news sales. 67 % think that the media emphasizes sensations. In addition, 63 % estimated that the media has become superficial and entertained.

The right estimates that Yle is on the left

From the major national media, the YLE News perspective is expected to be most clearly leaning to the left: 40 % of Finns feel that YLE’s news emphasizes the left -wing perspective in their communication.

This is especially evaluated by the Finnish and Coalition voters.

However, nearly half of Finns, or 49 % of Finns, believe that the right -wing or leftist perspective is not emphasized in YLE’s communication.

The views on Helsingin Sanomat are more evenly distributed: one third sees a left -wing emphasis in the magazine and a quarter of the right -wing. 29 % do not see the emphasis on either perspective.

STT is considered neutral.

Eva’s fall 2024 value and attitude survey was conducted last October. More than 2,000 people responded to it. The margin of error in the results is 2-3 percentage points in each of the population level in each direction.
