Rock musician Ville Malja sobered up, but doesn’t regret his drunken years: ‘I’m a fan of alcohol, what’s to deny’
Ville Malja has no hard feelings about his drunken years, because they were fun. But without getting sober, he would not have been able to write his debut novel.
– I knew it would always be waiting for me and accept me as I was.
Rock musician Ville Malja, 43, known for his bands Lapko and Moon Shot, has now been sober for five years. And he still has nothing bad to say about his former good friend.
– I would say that alcohol has played a big part in what I have achieved. Many contacts and job offers have been made at parties, more or less drunk.
One thing the cup would not have achieved if he had continued his binge life. Namely, the first novel.
Alcohol, or at least its thinking, had filled much of the everyday life of the bowl. After the sober, the opening had to be filled with something. There were a lot of thoughts in making and photography, but they also had time to write.
Born * white intersection * (Gummerus), which was released this week.
“Hops have been an inexhaustible source of joy”
The bowl has given hundreds of interviews during his life, but now he is a little excited. He cannot take on his role as a rock star, but he has to speak to the journalist as himself.
The bowl has also wanted to pursue authenticity in its book. The work is fiction, but it involves personality.
There are many similarities in the life of Tom’s protagonist Tom’s growth story.
– However, the reader should not lose time to think about what is true. For this story, \”truth is more wonderful than the story.\”
The novel describes how a rock musician grows up in a small town. However, the theme of the work is alcoholism as it overshadows Tom’s life from the beginning. The father of the liquor breaks the family and makes the sensitive boy sense his surroundings too much.
In addition to the shadows, the novel also describes the wonderfulness of alcohol.
*“This is the beauty. In the car, the American alternative rock and the mouth tastes liquor.”*
The descriptions come from the bowl’s own experiences.
– I’m really a alcohol fan. What to deny it. I’ve always been drunk. It has been such an inexhaustible motivation and a source of joy.
The guys have named the bowl as a \”international drinking club\” because he was always cheerful, invented the craziest stuff, and never tired.
“Alcohol is a fair drug”
At the beginning of the millennium, when the alternative rock band Lapko began to gain reputation, the music circles did not spit in a cup. Alcohol was part of the matter. After all, some of the rewards were paid as wine.
-For just over the twenties, it was a great experience to sit in a shiny record company office and order a weekend gig for the weekend. One Valkkari, Bisse, a couple of tight liquor …
Today, the spending has changed. Musicians are scarp and gigs are honored. In general, alcohol use of young people has decreased.
The bowl does not quite buy the idea of \u200b\u200bdecentness. According to him, the number of bottoms is always constant. Nowadays, the heads are sharpened with something other than alcohol. According to Malja, it is more dangerous, as the traces will only begin to appear properly years later.
– Alcohol is a fair intoxication in the sense that it is visible and heard.
The bowl is a special former alcoholic that he refuses to resent the alcohol overuse. He doesn’t even regret the past drunk decades.
Actually, he is annoyed by the fresh years.
– I argue that I’ve lost a lot of good dunes because I haven’t been to the party. In addition, I have also lost hundreds of fun nights.
Cognac at your fingertips
The celebration has been missed, but the bowl has not \”cleaned up\” alcohol out of their lives. In the middle of the office floor is a glass showcase with a bottle of cognac inside. It’s not any brandy, but a gift from the French cognac space.
– If you ever feel like you have to open a bottle now, at least quality goods are at your fingertips.
The bowl does not seem to make alcohol bumps for itself. For many years he has been touring with Moon Shot all over Europe. Sober.
The musician says he enjoys performing and singing differently than before. He is more energetic and sensitive to sensing the audience’s reactions. He feels that he will receive a response from the audience in a completely different way than during the years.
– In the past, the best moment of the day was only after the gig when you got to do it. Nowadays, the most important thing is the performance itself.
Addicted to work
Today, according to its own words, the cup celebrates \”monk life\”. In the mornings, he cycles from Lauttasaari to his office in Munkkiniemi. The day goes well with work – music, writing or imaging assignments. The same thing happens every day, as the bowl does not have holidays.
After the frenzy, he has filled the opening by alcohol with work. He admits that he is a little worried about his manic work.
– Now my addiction seems to be working.
For two years, the bowl sank its energy into writing. Now that the story is between the covers, the feeling is happy.
According to Malja, writing is the hardest and most rewarding thing he has ever done.
– Now I feel like I would like to write more.
The problem is just a livelihood, as writing does not get rich. During the writing process, other work must be paused and that means there is no income.
Because of the first novel, the bowl even sacrificed its beloved motorcycle. He had to sell it in order to pay his bill.
– When I left, I realized that this is true. Writing was more important than everything else.
At the moment, the cup has forbidden itself to take all kinds of notes – it might make him write a new story.
