Volunteers welcome to help develop the valuable Fäboda area in Pietarsaari
The popular beach area of Fäboda is being spruced up in a project that is hoping to attract hundreds of volunteers.
Pietarsaari’s popular and valuable Fäboda area will be developed through the project.
A joint project between Centria and the Arctic Museum Nanoq aims to inspire local residents, associations and businesses to join a network that would work with the city.
The aim is to preserve cultural heritage and nature through grassroots action.
The idea is to organize, for example, talks and events such as garbage collection and boardwalk repair.
During the project, the area’s guidance, maps, logo, and social and websites will be renewed. There is a nature trail between the Arctic Museum and the Little Hiekka area.
In a survey for Pietarsaari people, most of the 700 respondents defined that for them, Fäboda means a coffee room and beach area, especially.
Respondents would not want a general campsite for the area, but instead of a nature reserve or a sauna. Similarly, there are more parking spaces, a wider road and a bike path, and a café or restaurant. However, some respondents would not want new buildings or rental cottages on the beach.
The project will continue until September next year.
A public event will be held today at 6 pm in Campus Allegro, Pietarsaari, to discuss the volunteer network.
