Sewage pumping stations will not work if the electricity is cut off. So you should use as little water as possible, even if it still comes out of the tap.
Lahti Aqua warns against dumping water down the drain during a power cut. Most customers will have clean water on tap during the power cut, but sewage pumping stations will stop.
The water company advises that, for example, you can flush a glass of drinking water from the tap, but you should avoid taking a shower and use the toilet with care.
If the sewage pumping station receives too much water and cannot be moved, the sewage can leak into the environment or even into basements. Some of the pumping stations in the Gulf are located near a lake or a large ditch.
Power outages of around 1–2 hours do not yet affect the distribution of clean water, but it is also worth preparing for water outages.
– If there are more extensive power outages and they last longer, we will also not be able to produce as much water as in a normal situation, Avelin says.
Lahti Aqua shares information about preparing for power outages on its website. The company has also commissioned a video to illustrate why water use must be limited during outages.
