YLE’s savings mean that YLE’s announcers disappear from the screen – Anna-Liisa Tilus to become TV1’s channel voice
The reason for the reform is not only savings, but also a change in the use of media.
Changes will be made to Yle’s announcements on TV after Sunday 23 March and on radio on the last day of March.
Announcements like the current one will end on TV1. On Yle Radio 1, the title of announcer will be dropped, but the channel will continue to have presenters. TV1’s announcements will change their format and viewers will be informed of upcoming programmes only in the voices of the channel’s presenters.
The same change was introduced on TV2 already in 2012.
The announcements will have to be abandoned as a result of the conversion negotiations. Change negotiations are due to the savings in general, which were agreed in the Parliamentary Working Group in September last year.
This is the biggest change in the history of the media industry. The number of people in YLE is reduced by 309. There are 156 redundancies.
Negotiations now have achieved savings of EUR 27 million, while the total cuts made by Parliament will require about EUR 66 million by 2027.
Kaleva was the first to tell about the announcements.
