The National Archives are responsible for the preservation of the national documentary cultural heritage.

Opening days will be reduced at the National Archives, as most customers are increasingly using digital services.

The National Archives will be open less often, but the opening hours have not been reduced.

In Jyväskylä, for example, the archive will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9-16 after the turn of the year.

The Mikkeli office will also see a reduction in opening days at the turn of the year. In Mikkeli, the archive will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 4pm.

The National Archives collects feedback and experiences about the change during the beginning of the year and develops location-specific opening hours based on that. The archive operates in a total of nine locations.

Visits to research halls have decreased year by year. In twenty years, the drop is more than 80 percent.

The majority, i.e. more than 90 percent, of the National Archives’ customers currently only use digital services.
