Conductor Susanna Mälkki appointed Professor at the Sibelius Academy

Conductor Susanna Mälkki.
Mälk was named Conductor of the Year 2017 by the classical music magazine Musical America.

Mr Mälkki will take up his new post in August.

Mälkki graduated from the Sibelius Academy with a Master’s degree in music, first as a cellist in 1995 and then as a conductor in 1999. He was appointed Honorary Doctor of the University of the Arts in 2024.

Mälkki was chief conductor of the Helsinki City Orchestra from 2016-2023 and has worked with orchestras around the world.

In 2017, Musical America, a classical music magazine, chose Mälk as the conductor of the year.
