The pollen season has started in south-east Finland.

According to the Centre of Excellence for Nature and Health, the first butterfly pollen particles were detected in the area on Tuesday 4 March.

On Saturday 8 March, a stronger long-range jet stream pushed up the pollen concentration of linden to high levels.

Occasionally, there is also pollen in the walnut in the air.

Locally, alder and walnut do not bloom yet, but pollen comes to southeastern Finland elsewhere. Leppä and nuts bloom in southwestern Finland and Uusimaa.

Cool northern flow keeps numbers low

According to the forecast, cool northern currents keep pollen volumes very low during the week. Long -distance travel is expected for the rest of the week as the wind turns to the south side.
