In the run-up to Christmas, Yle’s audience has once again arranged the Christmas trees in 12 towns and villages. More than 3 700 votes were cast in our playful ballot.
Turku Cathedral’s Christmas tree has won the vote organised by Yle with clear numbers.
The Turku Six collected 26.6% of the votes cast, or 988 votes in total.
Lappeenranta’s Christmas tree came second with 15.3% of the vote, or 568 votes, and Oulu with 12.7%, or 471 votes.
A total of 3,712 votes were cast in the voting that ended on December 14.

The silver-placed spruce reaches the heights competing with Lappeenranta’s landmark, the water tower. The Valtakatu roundabout has been the location of Lappeenranta’s Christmas tree for decades.
3. Oulu
The Christmas tree of the city of Oulu is located in front of the hooded town hall under renovation.
4. Tampere
In Tampere, the city’s Christmas tree is a Siberian spruce this year as well. The tree had time to grow for about 60 years in the yard of the summer cottage in Ylöjärvi, before ending up with its solemn mission in the central market.
5. Vaasa
The tree that was erected in Vaasa market was donated by a local family, whose parents were married next to the tree. When a family child was born, the tree was watered with the daughter’s baptismal water.
6. Helsinki
The capital’s fir tree stands in the traditional place in front of the cathedral on Senate square. The spruce was obtained from a private donor from a detached house lot in Tuusula. It is an ordinary forest fir, but this year the tree is a little younger and therefore more slender than before.
7. Lahti
Lahti’s Christmas tree stands in the market square. In its former life, it grew next to a bus stop and offered passengers shelter from the rain.
8. Jyväskylä
The Christmas tree of the city of Jyväskylä grows in Kirkkopuisto. A Siberian spruce planted in the 1930s was chosen as this year’s Christmas tree. This year, the spruce, which usually serves as a Christmas tree, remained on the construction site of the parking garage under construction.
9. Kajaani
One of the three Christmas trees in the city of Kajaani is located in front of the town hall in Raatihuonetor. It is the only Christmas tree in the city with a star decoration on the top.
10. Seinäjoki
The Seinäjoki city Christmas tree was found nearby, in the Tanelinranta district. The tree is ten meters tall.
11. Kouvola
Kouvola’s Christmas tree is located in the yard of the town hall. The tree is Siberian spruce, and it reaches a height of 12 meters.
12. Hämeenlinna
In Hämeenlinna, the place for the Christmas tree is at the market square. The wood is a traditional forest fir, with strategic forest dimensions of 20 meters and 3600 kilograms.
