The thermometer will dip into the plus side in many places over the next few days. The Real Estate Federation stresses that property owners need to be vigilant in monitoring the situation of roof snow and preventing slippage.

The weather in southern Finland is warming up rapidly. High temperatures are expected from next night onwards, starting in south-west Finland.

Over the next few days, temperatures will range from minus to plus and back again. Local variations will be large.

– This is sawing on both sides of zero, Anne Borgström sums up.

Snow comes from the sky and sometimes also water. The warm air will move further north in the coming days, and by Wednesday at the latest the temperature will be around zero at the height of Jyväskylänk.

Warming weather also melts snow, which is much more abundant than average in Uusimaa, for example.

Roof snow and slipperiness require vigilance

– We are now living in the busiest time for anti-slippery and winter maintenance this winter. Enormous challenges have already been seen and will be seen, he says.

The sawing temperatures of the next few days will bring slippery conditions. In addition to combating slippage, property owners must also closely monitor the situation of roof snow in rapidly changing weather.

– If there is no roof snow falling on order and may no longer be available, at the very least you should take care to use booms and various protection devices to ensure that falling roof snow does not cause harm or risk to pedestrians or other users of the property, says Jenni Hupli.

According to Hupl, it is also important to identify whether buildings are at risk when the snow becomes watery as the weather warms.

He emphasizes that in the contract between the housing association and the property maintenance company, it is very important to define the critical obligations precisely in advance, so that the responsibilities and operational obligations are clear.

Fast-melting snow brings urban flooding

According to the Finnish Environment Agency (SYKE), the cooling of the weather may also cause urban flooding in southern and southwestern Finland in the coming days, when the snow melts quickly. In many places, the snow has not been removed from the streets in time with the snowfall.

The Finnish Environment Agency reminds us that it is worth opening the meltwater routes now. Rainwater drains on streets and properties should be cleaned of snow and ice to reduce flooding.

– Of course, street areas are mainly the responsibility of the municipalities, but the yards are the responsibility of the owners and there can be problems just the same. For example, if there is a very flat yard, the melt water can already threaten the building envelope if the water does not get away from the wall of the building, says Harri Myllyniemi.

Another frost for Christmas

The temperature drop seems to turn to freezing again in the whole country at the end of next week.

Snow is also coming in some places, so you can hope for a white Christmas at least in most of the country.

– There is more than 30 centimeters of snow in many places in southern Finland. Not all this snow will melt, says Anne Borgström.

In northern Finland, the weather will remain freezing for the next few days as well.
