Saariselkä’s spa is in such poor condition that the owner has to repair it with the threat of a fine
The municipality of Inari has decided to impose a threat to the French owner of the Saariselkä Spa to finally start the property’s repair work.
Saariselkä Spa has soon been closed for a year. Part of the spa building is in such poor condition that the municipality has decided to oblige the owner to put the building in order with the threat of fines.
In April 2020, the spa building collapsed the hall, where the Angry Birds -Inner Play Park was a collapse. The partial collapse of the building also caused damage to other parts of the building. For example, risk structures have been identified in the pool department and the roof of the reception hall.
The property is still rented by the Holiday Club Saariselkä, who has not been able to provide spa services for almost a year.
Financial losses have been followed by the fact that the spa doors have remained at the spa hotel.
As an incentive
Already in November 2023, the building inspector of the Inari municipality urged the owner of the property, the French Corum Orig SCPI to take action to renovate the building and to dismantle the damaged parts.
To date, no permit applications have been submitted and no work has been started.
Now the municipality has now decided to accelerate the issue with a penalty payment. By the end of April, the property ownership company must apply for permits for repair and demolition, or the municipality will impose a penalty payment of EUR 5,000.
If the work does not start by the end of June, a monthly fine of EUR 5,000 will double every month until work begins.
“There was no other option”
– It does not serve anyone that arguing has to take it forward. However, there is no other solution in this situation.
The Holiday Club rented on the property has not received accurate information from the landlord when the spa could be in good working order. CEO Maisa Romanainen thinks that the renovation project will in any case be a major process.
– Even if it starts right away, it will take a long time. Not talking about months, but more than a year.
Corum Origin Scpi, a French owner of the property, and DLA Piper Finland Oy, a Finnish representative of the company, did not respond to YLE’s contacts.
Inari first told about it.
