Adding plant species to the field improves the binding of carbon to the soil, says the University of Helsinki. In practice, it is about planting companion plants in the fields in addition to the main species. According to a recent research project, these companions also benefit the soil of the field – without loss of harvest.

Escort plants do not affect the amount of harvests, but can act as a disease barrier.

The multi -beneficial solutions for agriculture to the Climate -Responsible Food System project revealed that companion plants added to the main species of the field have a positive effect on the efficiency of carbon use of soil microbes.
