The demonstration, which sparked the discussion in advance, did not receive much support.

The Elocapina demonstration at the Lahti Railway Square only collected a handful of participants.

There was also a police patrol to monitor the situation and a few bystanders.

Initially, the demonstration wanted to be four -day and it would have included decorating the Mannerheim Riding Statue. However, the Lahti Urban Environment Board intervened.

Elokapina has become known for its spectacular demonstrations that have stopped traffic. There was no intention of such action in Lahti.

– This is just such a peaceful expression. These more radical actions have been taken because of the fact that ordinary demonstrations have not had an effect on decision -makers. These actions have wanted to highlight our concern that the eco -crisis is progressing and that stopping it requires bigger action, explains Vertainen.

Elokapina also organized demonstrations in other cities around the country.

Lahti closely follows protests

– This is good. We just wanted to make sure that everything goes safely and not doing vandalism, such as bump, says McCarron.

Although the Urban Environment Board intervened in the original demonstration plan, McCarron does not want to prevent the demonstration.

– The city must be careful and awake, but under no circumstances do we want to restrict the expressions without reason. The city cannot prevent people from demonstrating their minds, recalls McCarron.
