Two Finnish art museums hit by social media problems: their Instagram accounts were unexpectedly deleted
The Instagram accounts of two art museums in Helsinki were closed. The Didrichsen Art Museum suspects that this may be an attempted scam.
The Didrichsen Art Museum in Helsinki has found itself in an unusual situation.
– The content on our Insta account is purely based on art. This museum, artworks and upcoming exhibitions. We don’t have any political content,” says the museum director.
According to Didrichsen, there is also “nothing pornographic, violent or offensive on the Insta account.” The museum has tried to contact Meta, the technology company that runs Instagram. So far, that hasn’t led to anything.
– We have sent many complaints to the meta, but none of them have been good for them.
The museum director has begun to suspect that the closure of the social account may be accompanied by a possible extension attempt. After closing the Instagram account, the museum received an English e-mail to provide help to return your account.
Yle has seen a message sent to the museum at the Gmail address. The message arrived at the museum in the morning on Thursday. Museum director Didrichsen is amazed at how a service company can know at all that the Insta pages of a small Finnish art museum are closed.
– The special coincidence that suddenly we get such a message. We suspect that it may be the same person who has made complaints about these museums, for example.
The Museum of Photography’s Insta account also closed
The Finnish Museum of Photography is struggling with the same problem as the Didrichsen Art Museum. The Instagram account of the Museum of Photography was closed on Tuesday. On Monday, the museum received a warning from Meta that this could happen. The Insta account had the same materials as which can still be seen on the museum’s Facebook page.
– The justification of the account closing used the words Authenticity and Integrity.
Laasanen believes that Meta wants to make sure that the museum’s account authenticity. The Museum of Photography has also been in contact with meta, but so far to no avail. The museum has not received an email that provides help to return your closed account.
