KAJ’s sauna bass hit number one on Spotify in two countries – fans as far away as India
A Finnish band reveals their tactics to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. On Tuesday, KAJ also reached the number one spot on Spotify in Finland. Fans already come from as far away as India.
One, two, three, sauna! Lapinlahti sauna in Helsinki is hot as we step inside with the hottest sauna lovers of the moment. The KAJ heat team has given around a hundred interviews in recent weeks, but this is the first exclusive sauna interview with them.
– We are extremely surprised. We have never dared to dream of this. We were shocked when they called our names and announced that we had made it straight to the final of Melodifestivalen,” says Jakob Norrgård.
She has followed the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest Melodifestivalen since she was a child, but has never dared to dream of participating.
– We haven’t had any long -term plan to get to the melodifestivalen. We have been working hard for many years. The gigs have created more gigs, says Axel Åhman, who sauna with us remotely from home in Vaasa.
When Swedish television SVT contacted the Kaj band last May and asked for a race, the band decided to take the event. Now the goal is to take Finnish sauna culture to Swedes and at best to the world. They already have fans in both the Philippines and India.
– We saw a video from the Philippines. It’s absolutely crazy. It’s fun that he found Kevin handsome. One fan from India says that our songs are spreading there like a wilderness, says Jakob Norrgård.
The video below reveals how to fold * Bara Bada Bastu * by Indian:
Getting to the Eurovision Song Contest was never the primary reason for their participation, reveals Axel Åhman.
– In that case, we would have done everything in a completely different way. We saw Mello as a great opportunity to reach more in Swedish.
Currently, Kaj’s song * Bara Bada Bastu * is on Spotify’s number one list in both Sweden and Finland. It is historical that the Finnish -Swedish song is listed in Finland and even in a dialect, says Jakob Norrgård.
– It’s never happened! The marketplace is spreading in Finland, you will notice it. It’s great to be serving it, says Axel Åhman.
Country cousins and rally cousins
The phones have been hot after the band returned from Malmö-everyone wants to hear about Mello’s success. The races will culminate next Saturday, March 8, to the Melodifestivalen final.
Before the time of the solution, the calendar will be filled with 90 % of the interviews and the remaining ten percent will be used to practice the presentation.
– We find that we become more popular all the time, but there are only a limited number of hours a day. Would like to be involved in everything, but you also have to sleep, says Kevin Holmström.
In Sweden, they have appeared as \”cousins of the East country\ that is, as rural cousins that do not properly control Smalltalk with the guest guests.
– It is comic how bad we are about mingling. Axel is perhaps the best of us. We really feel like we are Finns on this, says Jakob Norrgård.
\”It’s Crazy, It’s Party\” – The wrapper became known for his \”rally English\ the term relating to Finnish rally drivers, which give English interviews with strong Finnish accent. Kaj calls her own Finnish language \”rallying\”.
\”Mostly I just nod and smile, and then Kevin can talk,\” says Jakob Norrgård.
– Speaking in Finnish is nervous, but it is important to me that Finnish speakers in Finland can follow all of this. It is a folk party, Kevin Holmström continues.
On Tuesday, they released their first video in Finnish on Instagram with Finnish texts to reach the audience in Finnish.
The group represents a minority minority who plans to take the Finnish sauna culture to Sweden – and perhaps the world. The band feels that they have a natural connection to Swedish in Finnish -Swedish language and culture.
A firm grip on the Vöyr dialect
Kaj members are happy sauna ambassadors because they are also enthusiastic saunas in real life. Jakob Norrgård says he is the most cowardous saunas of the trio, but also the most enthusiastic. He sauna daily and in winter at least once a week.
– But competing in the sauna is like competing in music. You have to go according to your own feeling and your mood, says Kevin Holmström.
In Sweden, Kaj has been able to answer numerous questions about the difference between Finnish -Swedish, Finnish and Swedish Finns. They are also internationally interested.
Although members of KAJ customize their language in interviews to be understood, they always carry the Ostrobothnian cultural heritage.
\”It’s not just about a dialect, but also a\” do it yourself \”feeling on stage and how we present ourselves, says Kevin Holmström.
– Self -irony and the ability to laugh at ourselves are part of our pride and culture. We take this with us to the Melodifestivalen, where the atmosphere can sometimes be a little too serious, continues Axel Åhman.
The first hit of the band’s career was born in 2014. * Jåo -Jåo Nåo E and Jåo Yolo and Nåo! * Sings with a wide vöyrin dialect. * Bara Bada Bastu* has been polished to suit the Swedish taste.
– The Swedes consider this quite crazy. We think it could be even crazy, says Axel Åhman.
Can Arja Saijonmaa join us?
– It would be wonderful if he wanted to participate in our final presentation. He is a legend and a real hit. We are three sons Vöyr and we haven’t dared to call him yet. We appreciated the coin that Axel will do it in the next few days.
The Melodifestivalen final presentation may only have eight people on stage at the same time. Kaj’s team already has eight to seven on stage and one person singing stems in the scenes.
– If Arja wants to be involved in the scenes, it is possible. Or maybe he just glows past in some way. These are just technical details that need to be resolved.
If the planets are in the right line, Arja Saijonmaa could hang on, even with a wire in the air, Jakob throws. Obviously, next week’s Saturday’s performance will be wild. Vöyr’s boys are seeking profit.
– We are going to give our best, even more and bigger. We try to make the Swedes understand how important the sauna is. This should take us to victory, says Holmström.
The band plans to turn Strawberry Arena into a gigantic sauna. However, Kaj does not promise to bring an authentic sauna spatula to the stage.
\”I have both accordion and suit, so I don’t have time to remove my clothes in two minutes and in forty seven seconds,\” says Åhman.
Although the popularity of KAJ has grown explosively in a few days, the summer in the gig calendars still looks quite empty.
– We look forward to the best offers and we are going to take a little vacation as well.
