Lauri Kontron’s column: Windmills rise in every cape, hollow and island, but where do the profits flow?
The rush to build wind power is the same as any big promise: if something seems too good to be true, it usually isn’t, Kontro warns.
Wind is an important new energy source. Wind power literally has the wind in its sails. In the EU, as in Finland, wind power already accounts for a fifth of total electricity generation.
We have new ones. In addition to the existing over 1,500 land windows, up to 7,500 new windmills are planned.
On the other hand, the Supreme Administrative Court recently banned the construction of a wind farm in Kajaani because the windmills would have disturbed the wolf flock in the area.
The wolves of the wolf herd, or the movement, are nowadays at a minimum of 250 square kilometers. If the area is a circle, it is about 18 kilometers in diameter. In that area, wind power must not be disturbed by wolves. You can disturb people as close. This indicates that the status of the legislation is at least lame.

The activities of tax havens also include the fact that they are ingenious to avoid corporate taxes. In the principle, it is quite possible to pump the wind power company full debt. Then the debt interest is paid abroad, and the company’s profit shows zero – the Finnish taxpayer follows with his gaze as the wind rinses the tax euros far away, to other countries.
Possible fixed price system. However, the newly lacking Eastern Finland, which has a lot of space, would need new investments the most.
Wind power is what applies to all other great promises. If something starts to feel too good to be true, it is usually not true.
When properly controlled, wind power brings a lot of good to the national economy, it is an important part of energy maintenance. However, wind power needs national policies and rules of the game. At present, we are well on our way to the wild banana state of wind energy.
