New tourist guides are being trained in Joensuu after a five-year break.

The course, organised by Joensuu Tourist Guides Association and Joensuu Community College, will start in January and end in June.

The course programme includes lectures on the history of the city, Karelian cuisine, nature and architecture.

The civic school’s courses include the dark history of Joensuu and Joensuu of rock and pop music.

Guided tours are organized in Joensuu on foot, by bicycle and by bus. Joensuu’s tourism appeal is believed to be growing, and guided tours are being developed and renewed all the time.

Guides provide guidance in addition to their other activities.

Currently, there are twenty authorized tourist guides in the Joensuu Tourist Guides Association, of which about ten are actively working.
