To keep costs down, you can cook your own meals or share the cost of accommodation with a larger group.

Families pay thousands of euros for a winter holiday at a ski resort. People want to spend money on being out and about, even though the general rise in prices is reflected in the overall cost.

Lempiäinen came to the fells with his family and a group of friends. He estimates the price tag for a week’s winter holiday at around €2 500. The savings came from renting the cabin with a large group.

Costs are also kept under control by cooking your own food at the cottage.

Säkkinen says that even though there is a lot of talk about the challenges of the economic situation, winter holidays seem to be a time when families want to invest in a shared time and spend a holiday in the north.
