There have been no long queues to the Päijät-Häme joint emergency service Akuutti24. However, winter season flu, coronavirus and RS virus are keeping the emergency service busy. Archive photo.

The emergency queues in Päijät-Häme have so far remained under control.

In recent days, the emergency services of the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) have been reported to be in crisis and patients have been diverted from one emergency room to another.

The situation at Päijät-Häme’s Acute24 emergency department is currently reported to be similar to the normal winter season.

– The situation is not good, but the number of patients coming in is under control. However, the on-call service is strong.

Akuutti24’s Nordlund says that Päijät-Hämee would not currently have the opportunity to accept emergency patients from the HUS area.

– I haven’t seen that this has even been proposed, says Nordlund.

Up to four-hour queue for Kela taxis

HUS’s problems have been complicated by the long waiting times of Kela taxis as an additional factor. Maaret Castrén, the branch director of HUS Akut, told Yle yesterday that patients may have to wait up to four to six hours for a taxi transport paid for by Kela.

Akuutti24 is also familiar with the phenomenon.

– The problem is not only with the emergency room, because you can’t get Kela taxis from the bed wards either, so there is no space available there. It can take four hours to wait for a taxi, says Nordlund.
