In a comparison between regions, Lapland is the fourth most popular region in the early part of the year, after Southwest Finland, Uusimaa and Päijät-Häme.

According to Leinonen, the growth in tourism in Lapland is most visible in the rental cottage market, but also partly in the cottage trade.
