Erkki Nieminen, Lahti’s longest-serving councillor, has died
The 89-year-old municipal policy expert from Lahti was still a candidate in the spring elections.
He has served as a Lahti City Councillor for several terms since 1989 and has also held numerous other positions of trust, including in the Vitality and Employment Committee and the Päijät-Häme Regional Council.
Nieminen was educated as a Doctor of Education and Master of Political Science. He retired as Managing Director of Lahden Pysäköinti Oy, but continued to make a difference as a trustee.
Erkki Nieminen was also a candidate in this spring’s municipal and regional elections.
As the oldest delegate, Nieminen was honored to open the first meeting of the Päijät-Häme history in March 2022.
