A crazy idea ends up on the stage of a theatre in Kajaani: a musical about a small village that will decide the fate of its inhabitants

Kajaani City Theatre’s new musical combines two passionate issues: baseball and municipal politics.

Kajaani City Theatre is playing baseball this spring with high stakes.

In the nesting scale, the small municipality of Koskela is threatened with a forced alliance with a neighbouring municipality and the risk of ending up as an international nuclear waste disposal site.

By chance, the municipal fathers challenge the state to a baseball match to decide the fate of the municipality. The team needs the entire municipality and a spirit of unity.

The man raises baseball in his hand on the theater stage. There are actors around.
A baseball that falls on the table of the municipal council sets off a chain of events that will decide the fate of the municipality of Koskela.

Baseball was a natural choice for a sport because its position in the area is strong. In the neighboring municipality, the most successful club of Sotkamo Jymy has been found in Superpesis.

At the same time, they wanted to investigate the conditions of living in the remote area and the importance of baseball in the construction of national, local and individual identity.

– I come from a small town, Kontiolahti, and since childhood I have felt a pressure from the south. We have wanted to emphasize that these issues will be cooperated, says Kinnunen.

Relaunching your childhood gaming experience

In the musical, Koskela’s Koskela Koskela Koskela’s success team comes to life. The team features former top nesting player Jami, who has had to return home by milk.

– The flick stays in his hand, the stroke leaves, the plunge passes and the rules are in control. I have been able to show and use skills, during the training season I advised others how the throw goes and the body is twisting.

– During the first song, the rules are briefly reviewed and baseball is played in different forms. Everything is easy to see, but of course there are hooks for those who are passionate about nesting.

The musical was not originally planned for Kajaani, but for larger stages. The scriptwriters Janne Kinnunen and Sanna Heikkinen adapted the text so that it would premiere in both of their home theatres.

“We ordered cool models”

Kinnunen describes the performance as a joyful musical comedy, which also has deeper identification surfaces. For example, one of the songs is a ballad about a relationship.

– Mäkinen has made a dozen new songs for this. We ordered the rallies and they are contagious. By home, you can humble even the song to save, says Kinnunen.

The nesting musical will premiere on February 14th. For spring performances, the authors also expect spectators who do not usually go to the theater.

– That’s what I at least hope to see the nesting nails here, laughs actor Mika Silvennoinen.

After all the twists and turns, the municipality of Koskela and the nesting team are doing well, Silvennoinen reveals.

– Koskela’s Kumu goes to the finals, of course.
