Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman (ps) hopes that Fazer will invest in Lahti despite the increase in confectionery tax.

The increase in confectionery tax threatens Fazer’s Lahti’s giant investment. Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman (ps.) Says that there have been incentives that would make the investment materialize.

\”There has been a lot of discussion about what could be incentives that would lead to a positive investment decision,\” says Rydman.

Towards the end of the year, Fazer announced that it would put a factory investment of EUR 750 million due to the upcoming confectionery tax increase.

An agreement on a business plot in Kujala in Lahti will be valid with Fazer until the end of 2025. The company has planned a chocolate factory in the area.

Wille Rydman states that tax increases are not pleasant decisions and that road has now been completed. He says that Finland has to balance that Finland avoids getting into the procedure for excessive deficit of the European Union and, on the other hand, can ensure that it is worth investing in Finland.

Rydman admits that Fazer will suffer from the increase in confectionery tax, but the same increase applies to all confectionery manufacturers.

– Of course, Fazer has a special feature that it is above all a domestic player. We would love to see investment in the domestic confectionery industry in Finland in the future.
