Mona Lisa changes – President Macron puts Louvre under renovation
Today, French President Emmanuel Macron said that my national icon Louvre Museum would go to the giant renovation. The Mona Lisa board gets its own room.
The renovation plans of the art museum, which gained the reputation of the national icon, were heard after last week’s nasty news.
President Macron did not, but said today the museum would go into a phasing renovation. The renovation will cost around EUR 700-800 million over ten years.
\”That’s why painting will require its own ticket in the future,\” Macron said.
There are other ways to draw more ticket income. In addition to the new Mona Lisa tickets, Macron said that visitors from outside the EU area will be charged more than the Union citizens in the future.
Macron promised to fund the state for only a small part of the renovation, and said the renovation would take care of the museum’s own returns and donors.
Huge number of visitors
Approximately nine million people visit Louvre each year. According to Macron, the expanded museum after the renovation could aim for up to 12 million visitors a year.
Louvre is one of the oldest and biggest art museums in the world. It includes one of the most important works of Western art from Mona Lisa to Milon Venus sculpture.
