A new bike canopy rises next to the Lahti Travel Center

An excavator is digging next to the wheelhouse. There is a pile of cobblestones next to the machine. — At the travel center, old bike sheds are being removed and a new one is being built.

The current storage capacity of bicycles has been found to be inadequate during the summer season. The new canopy also offers better weather protection in winter.

A new bike shelter is being built at Lahti Matkakeskus. The roof will have about 90 bicycle spaces and it will be lit, with a green roof and the facade will be covered with wooden slats.

The project with the fairway agency will increase the number of bikes in the area, as the current capacity has been found to be inadequate during the summer season. The new canopy provides better weather protection even in winter.

Work at the travel center has begun with melting of frost and removing old bike canopies. Old canopies have been planned at some point to be located in Laune Family Park.

The site is particularly detrimental to light traffic in the area, and during various lifting work, for example, the adjacent route may be temporarily closed.

The site area has been fenced and there are newsletters on site to retrieve parked bicycles. If the bike is still in the area, after removal, it can be inquired from the contractor whose contact details can be found on the site.

The new bike shed is scheduled to be completed in April 2025.
