The result of over -change negotiations: 309 jobs are reduced, 156 will be dismissed
In September, the parliamentary working group decided on the biggest cuts in Yle’s hundred-year history. Funding cuts led to the largest change negotiations in the history of the media industry.
High change negotiations have ended.
Yle’s number of personnel will decrease by 309 people.
There are 156 redundancies. With retirement and other personnel changes, YLE’s personnel will also reduce 153 people. During the negotiations, a pension fund was available.
The redundancies are distributed as follows (156 in total): 76 people will be dismissed from news and sports, 33 from Creative content, 10 from Svenska and a total of 37 from other company functions.
News and sports also include regional activities. Creative content produces, among other things, documents, radio programs and music offerings.
There were 1,798 employees in the employment relationship in the conversion negotiations.
Originally, it was reported that negotiations could lead to termination of an employment relationship of up to 375 people.
Above, after the change negotiations, more savings measures are planned.
The negotiations that have taken place now will result in savings of 27 million euros, while the total cuts made by the parliament require savings of around 66 million euros by 2027.

The biggest cuts in the centenary of the centenary
In September, the Parliamentary Working Group on YLE’s funding decided on the biggest cuts in YLE’s centenary history. Financing cuts led to the biggest change in the history of the media.
Yle’s funding will be cut by raising Yle’s value added tax and freezing index increases.
The general index has been frozen for three years 2025–2027. The impact of the decision is 47 million euros at the level of 2027.
Yle’s value added tax will rise from 10 percent to 14 percent starting in 2026. The impact of the decision is approximately EUR 19 million annually.
This means that in 2027 the impact of savings will increase to about EUR 66 million.
About 3,000 employees work at Yle, the majority of whom are journalists or other creators of journalistic content. In addition, the company employs temporary and freelancers.
