“Architects would flock here”, believes the Alvar Aalto Association – this is how Finland would benefit from Unesco status
Finland nominates the Aalto Works complex as a World Heritage site. This would be important both for the preservation of the sites and for tourism.
– In this way, we ensure the preservation and preservation of the value of the site for future generations. On the other hand, at the same time, the series’ international profile as world culture is recognized.
Svartström believes that Unesco will approve the application.
– Of course, I won’t take a position on whether the application will be accepted in the first round or whether it needs to be further specified.
Unesco has stated that it is now specifically 20th century architecture that is wanted for the world heritage list.
A \”hot spot\” for tourists and architects
World heritage status supports cultural heritage and increases the attractiveness of the cities that are its target from the point of view of tourists, Svanström thinks.
– Architects and other cultural people from around the world would start flocking here even more. The Aalto center would provide such a bonga point.
One of the thirteen locations in the show, the Aalto Center, is located on Seinäjoki. It includes several administrative and cultural buildings.
– The Aalto Center is a real nugget of gold for Seinäjoki, which has not yet been properly utilized, says Aaltonen.
Commitment would also bring responsibility
The Aalto series belongs to the series of modern architecture in the presentation. The good care of Aalto’s properties has been identified in the presentation.
– The characteristics are preserved and maintenance has been taken care of. The world heritage project requires a commitment to good care in the future as well, Svartström states.
Commitment also brings responsibility.
– This is a commitment to take good care of the sites for future generations as well.
In building maintenance and extensive renovations, know-how has also been accumulated, which Niina Svartström of the Norwegian Museum Authority believes will be useful for other sites that are at a different stage.
– Of course, the data bank and best practices can also be used more widely in the repair of domestic modern architecture.
There is faith in getting through
The Museum Agency has already received feedback during the preparation that the whole has a world heritage value to see, and it is not too similar to any other of the more than a thousand objects already on the list.
As an architect himself, Svartström sees the potential status as a significant thing for Finland.
– Especially in terms of diversity and a high-quality living environment, and on the other hand, because of nurturing newer architecture.
Regarding Finland’s Aalto destinations, their importance in shaping Finnish society and building a national welfare state has been highlighted.
