The cost of climbing Mount Everest soars to $15 000 – Nepal increases the permit fee by a third
Every year, hundreds of people climb to the top of the world’s highest mountain.
A permit to climb 8,849 meters to the top of Mount Everest during the spring season will cost $15,000 in the future. In the past, you had to pay 11,000 dollars to climb the world’s highest mountain.
Mount Everest can be climbed at different times of the year and partly along different routes.
Most climbers reach the summit in the spring. On the less popular autumn route, the price rises to $7,500, and on the rarely climbed winter route to $3,750.
The changes will take effect in September.
Expected decision
The increase in permit fees was expected, as there had already been a discussion between the tour operators and the Nepali authorities last year.
He characterized the decision as understandable and said he was confident the fees would be used to protect the environment and improve safety on Mount Everest.
Climbers have often criticized the Nepali authorities for allowing too many people to climb Mount Everest and neglecting to clear the routes.
Every year, hundreds of climbers climb the world’s highest mountain. For the spring season of 2023 alone, the Nepalese authorities gave permission to 454 climbers to climb Mount Everest. The numbers have grown year by year.
